Movie relating to Sociology
The other day I watched a movie that related to sociology a lot. It was a documentary about a serial killer who murdered hundreds of kids in the early 1900s. What relation could this possibly have to sociology? I remember in a lesson Mr. Salituro was telling us how different events impact how someone becomes who they are. So it is not as simple as blaming someone for becoming deranged or psychotic, because what happens to them early in life influences them in good or bad ways. In this case it was a bad way, because the serial killer was witness to many horrible things when he was an orphan growing up. This had to have some effect on what he became later on in his life. He was still without a doubt a terrible person for committing the crimes that he did, but with the knowledge I gained from class I learned that it's not just him that made him do what he did. It is really cool to take the lesson we learned in class and relate it to something that I thought would have no relation.

i remember that lesson today and that movie really is a great example of what Mr. Salituro was saying. I also find it extremely interesting how almost every day in our lives we experience things relating to sociology, such as watching movies like the one you talked about.
ReplyDeleteJust to clarify your example though: If the guy in the movie was the only one affected that way and he freaked out and became like that, then that is more of a psychological imagination, but if you see that orphans are affected similarly and maybe there is a higher chance for those orphans who witness such awful things to become like that then that is a sociological imagination. See the difference? One is focused on the individual and the other is about how a group is affected.
ReplyDeleteYeah I see the difference thanks for clarifying.
